Pittsburg Joins Cities Across Contra Costa County to Remember Lives Lost to COVID-19 

On Monday, March 22, at 8:00 p.m., the City of Pittsburg will join cities across the county for a night of hope and healing as we remember those we’ve lost to COVID-19, to comfort those left behind and to collectively heal and begin the process of moving forward. Remembrances, words of hope, testimonials and musical tributes will be played throughout the 30-minute memorial event. The ceremony will be telecast over CCTV throughout Contra Costa County, on YouTube and shared on the City of Pittsburg’s Facebook page.


Pittsburg Youth Summer Corp Accepting Applications

The City of Pittsburg’s Recreation Department is currently accepting applications for the Pittsburg Summer Youth Corp (P.S.Y.C.) program. This is a 6-week program designed for Pittsburg youth ages 11-14 to gain work experience, work ethics, community pride, commitment and volunteerism through structured activities and service projects. This program will be held on Saturday’s at Small World Park and runs from April 17, 2021 through May 22, 2021. P.S.Y.C. participants will complete community service projects that include painting, maintenance, graffiti removal, landscaping, and more. Space for this program is limited. Contra Costa County Openings at a Glance

COVID-19 is spreading slower in Contra Costa County, allowing some business and community activities to resume in the county for the first time since November. The average daily number of new cases in Contra Costa has fallen enough that California moved the county from the purple tier to the red tier of its Blueprint for a Safer Economy.  The red tier allows for things like indoor dining, indoor gyms and movie theaters with capacity limitations. COVID-19 Rent Relief Program Now Open

Contra Costa County tenants and landlords impacted by COVID-19 can now apply for assistance from the COVID-19 Rent Relief program. CA COVID-19 Rent Relief will help income-eligible households pay rent and utilities, both for past due and future payments. Check eligibility and apply online for COVID-19 Rental Relief and in Spanish Ayuda con la Renta. Community Webinar Town Hall on COVID-19 and the Black Community

On Thursday, March 25, Contra Costa District Attorney Diana Becton and Contra Costa County Supervisor Federal Glover will host a webinar town hall focused on COVID-19 and the Black community. Local leaders and health experts will join the call to review their experiences of getting the vaccine. Health experts will also participate in the town hall to convey how critical the vaccine is to stop the virus and save lives. Grab & Go Library Service to Launch April 26

Beginning Monday, April 26, Contra Costa County Library will reopen most community libraries to the public for Grab & Go service. The libraries will be open with limited occupancy and offer select services. Patrons will be asked to limit their time in the library to no more than one hour and to abide by all safety protocols including social distancing and mask requirements. Hometown Hero Banner Program

The City of Pittsburg is currently accepting applications for the Hometown Hero Banner Program. This program was created to offer a living tribute for the community to honor Pittsburg residents who have served or are serving in the United States military. Banners honoring some of our local military personnel are proudly displayed on light posts along Railroad Avenue in Old Town and at the BART Pittsburg Center Station. The banners will be displayed beginning mid-June through November. This program is funded through private donations and/or sponsorships.
